Joyful Noise Music Ministry

Music Ministry at the United Parish of Upton actively engages Children, Youth, Adults, and Families, in a variety of ways throughout the year. If you love to make music by singing, or playing an instrument, or if you would like to help out in some other way, such as working on a Music Ministry project, please contact Susan Bonito.

Accord is one of the longest continuously active small group ministries at the United Parish of Upton, and is directed by Susan Bonito. This talented and dedicated group of singers leads the congregational singing and offers anthems and service music in a variety of musical styles every Sunday from September to June. The group is open to high school students (with permission from the Music Director) and adults. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday mornings at 8:45 a.m. in Memorial Hall.  New singers are welcomed throughout the program year.

FruitsoftheSpirit40Children's Musical "Fruits of the Spirit"

This choir welcomes children in 2nd through 5th grades. Younger children may join with an accompanying parent to assist with reading and focus. Rehearsals incorporate musical games and vocal warm-ups to teach important musical and vocal principals. Singing music in unison and occasionally in two parts, this group offers their musical gifts and radiant presence in Worship about every 6 weeks and for special occasions. They also present musicals in collaboration with the Sunday School once every year or so to the congregation. Under the direction of Susan Bonito, Acclaim rehearses on Sundays at 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the Sanctuary. New singers are welcomed throughout the program year.

Festival Choir (Accord Augmented)

JazzSunday5Jazz Sunday Festival Choir with Kenji Kikuchi and Band

The Festival Choir typically performs works requiring more singers and/or instrumentalists for festivals, holidays and special occasions. Historically, this group has gathered for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Jazz Sunday (Sunday before Lent), Palm Sunday, and Easter. Additional singers and instrumentalists are invited to augment our regular choir for these special Sundays.  There are typically 4-5 rehearsals prior to the occasion(s). There may also be an additional dress rehearsal for Christmas, Jazz Sunday and Easter. Participation in the Festival Choir is an especially joyous way to contribute to the music ministry of the church on a short-term basis.  Submit your name and contact information to Susan Bonito to be added to the Festival Choir contact list.  You will be notified in advance of any Festival Choir activies.

A Cafellas

Our men’s ensemble performs several times per program year. Singing both accompanied and a cappella music, they generally sing in close harmony. This group provides male singers with changed voices an opportunity to participate in music ministry with a limited time commitment. This group is coordinated by Brian LeSuer and rehearses on Sunday evenings.  Please contact Brian LeSuer for additional information and an updated schedule.

A Cabellas

This group also performs a couple of times per program year. Historically, this women’s ensemble has performed for the Longest Night Service in December. Like the A Cafellas, A Cabellas present music with lush harmonies and sing both a cappella and accompanied works. The group is under the direction of Susan Bonito. Additional instruments are occasionally included.

Joyful Noise Intergenerational Choir

Beginning this Spring, (2018) Accord will invite individuals and families to join in singing a simplified anthem in Worship on preannounced Sundays.  Families with children, individuals and guests are invited to attend one choir rehearsal before worship on the specified Sunday dedicated to the rehearsal of that one Anthem, and will then sing that piece with the choir in the 9:45 a.m. worship service.  There is no ongoing committment or multiple rehearsals for this Intergenerational Choir.  Intergenerational Choir dates will be posted on the home page of this website, the Church Calendar and will be announced via the bulletin, and the Spire.
