Music Ministry at the United Parish of Upton seeks to provide a warm, inviting and inclusive atmosphere of collaboration and fellowship through musical endeavors. We take our job of ministering through music seriously, but we have lots of fun together in the process.  We are active in a variety of ways throughout the year. If you love to make music by singing or playing an instrument, or if you would like to help out in some other way, such as working on a Music Ministry project, please contact Susan Bonito.

Joyful Noise Music Ministry Community Cookbook Project

In celebration of the upcoming 50th Anniversary of the federation between the Upton Methodist Church and the First Congregational Church of Upton, the Joyful Noise Music Ministry of the United Parish of Upton, will publish a Community Cookbook. Proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will benefit the music ministry of the church. The adult Choir, Accord, has a long history of music-making in Upton, and continues to bring people together, to inspire and to uplift the community through the power and blessing of music.

The cookbook will feature favorite tried-and-true recipes from church members, friends and the surrounding community and local chefs. In addition to favorite recipes, the cookbook will also contain favorite scripture passages of the recipe submitters. Personal dedications and photos may also be submitted, for a small fee.

This cookbook will be professionally printed and bound, and will, no doubt, become a treasured keepsake and heirloom for generations to come. It will make a perfect gift for family and friends any time of the year.

Recipes may be submitted online by filing out the form here, or by delivering/mailing a clearly printed or typed hard copy of the recipe to:

We hope you will gather your favorite recipes and submit them today!

Accord

Accord is one of the longest continuously active small group ministries at the United Parish of Upton, and is directed by Susan Bonito. This talented and dedicated group of singers leads the congregational singing and offers anthems and service music in a variety of musical styles every Sunday from September to June. The group is open to high school students (with permission from the Music Director) and adults. Rehearsals are held on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday mornings at 8:45 a.m. in The Upper Room.  New singers are welcomed throughout the program year.

Accoustix

This contemporary Praise and Worship group for Middle School and High School students is forming now (March 2019).  Rehearsals are on Tuesdays at 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Upper Room.  (We are looking for a  skilled drummer, pianist and bass player to accompany this group.  These instrumentalists may be teens or young adults). Accoustix will perform at the Agape Services (third Tuesday of the month) beginning in May, 2019.  Going forward, they will occasionally perform and collaborate with other choirs of the church in Sunday Worship. For more information, please contact Susan Bonito

Festival Choir (Accord Augmented)

JazzSunday5Jazz Sunday Festival Choir with Kenji Kikuchi and Band

The Festival Choir typically performs works requiring more singers and/or instrumentalists for festivals, holidays and special occasions. Historically, this group has gathered for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Jazz Sunday (Sunday before Lent), Palm Sunday, and Easter. Additional singers and instrumentalists are invited to augment our regular choir for these special Sundays.  There are typically 4-5 rehearsals prior to the occasion(s). There may also be an additional dress rehearsal for Christmas, Jazz Sunday and Easter. Participation in the Festival Choir is an especially joyous way to contribute to the music ministry of the church on a short-term basis.  Submit your name and contact information to Susan Bonito to be added to the Festival Choir contact list.  You will be notified in advance of any Festival Choir activies.

A Cafellas

Our men’s ensemble performs several times per program year. Singing both accompanied and a cappella music, they generally sing in close harmony. This group provides male singers with changed voices an opportunity to participate in music ministry with a limited time commitment.

A Cabellas

This group also performs a couple of times per program year. Historically, this women’s ensemble has performed for the Longest Night Service in December. Like the A Cafellas, A Cabellas present music with lush harmonies and sing both a cappella and accompanied works. The group is under the direction of Susan Bonito. Additional instruments are occasionally included.

Summer Soloists

Coffeehouse9Summer Soloist Arianna BonitoThroughout each summer, soloists, and small ensembles offer special music for worship. Singers and instrumentalists are encouraged to sign up in May and June for one or more services during the summer. Rehearsals with our accompanist, Chi-Chi Chin are arranged at mutually convenient times.  To sign up as a Summer Soloist, please contact Susan Bonito.
