Other Programs Offered by the Young at Heart Program

Introduction to the Bible Class (offered in the spring)

All third grade students (or older who have not yet participated in this program) are invited to attend an "Introduction to the Bible" class, led by Christian Education Director, Jessica Murphy. The classes are held on three consecutive Sunday mornings from 8:00-9:30 usually in April/May. Children who complete the class will be recognized and presented with a Bible on Celebration Sunday. For more information contact Jessica at

Communion Preparation Class (offered in the fall)

All children in 4th grade and up, are invited to attend a special class about the importance of receiving communion. The class is held during Sunday School on three consecutive Sunday mornings usually in September/October. Our church believes that all are welcome to partake in communion; however, attending the preparation classes beforehand will make the tradition more meaningful for each individual.

Junior Youth Group

Our youth in 6th grade and above have graduated from the traditional Sunday School program and continue to their spiritual journey in our youth programs.  Grade 6-8 participate in the Junior Youth Group program that mixes a structured Bible centered meeting with mission work and outreach activities that take place outside of the Youth Room. Junior Youth Group meets every second & fourth Sunday evening, 6:00-8:00.

Senior Youth Group

When youth reach high school age, their education and ministry continue through the Senior Youth Group.  Older youth have more opportunities to go out into the community and practice ministry and outreach beyond the walls of the church. Occasionally, the Senior Youth Group meets in a formal setting to discuss the mission theme of the year and learn what the Bible teaches us to do about that particular societal dilemma. Meetings will be held every second & fourth Sunday evening, 6:00-8:00.

Our Confirmation class is offered every other year (2018-2019 is our next confirmation year). When the youth of United Parish are in 9th and 10th grades, or older, they are invited to participate in Confirmation. Confirmation is an inquiry process and learning journey whereby young adults explore the meaning of their faith to them, delve into their faith questions and make a decision to confirm their Christian baptism. Adult leaders and mentors are their companions over the course of their sixth month program.

Vacation Bible Camp

We also reach out to the community and invite every child to participate in our Vacation Bible Camp program, held one week during the summer.
