Weddings, Baptisms and Funerals

As a community of faith, we know it is important to honor and celebrate those milestone moments in life that give our lives meaning. As a people of God, we know that these moments are also "holy ground," a meeting place of the human and the Divine. We open our sanctuary and warmly provide hospitality for the celebration of weddings, baptisms and funerals. The following information will be helpful to you if you are looking to be married at the United Parish, request baptism for you or your child, or honor the life of a loved one who has died.

Weddings

"Two become one flesh."

As an Open and Affirming/Reconciling congregation we welcome all couples who are looking for a Christian ceremony of marriage the hospitality of our beautiful sanctuary and the guidance of our pastor as you prepare for your wedding day. Members and non-members of the United Parish are welcome to be married in our church at the recommendation of our pastor. To request to be married in our sanctuary or by our pastor, please contact our pastor at the church phone number at the bottom of the page. Our pastor requires at least three pre-marriage meetings. These meetings will offer both parties - pastor and couple - a chance to get to know one another better, a time for reflection and conversation about your relationship and understanding of marriage, and an opportunity to plan and organize the desired elements for your wedding service. For a copy of our fee schedule please look here. All fees can be waived in the case of financial hardship and at the discretion of our pastor.

Our fellowship hall, "the Vestry," is available for small receptions (150 or less) with outside catering arranged by the couple/families.

Baptism

"For as many of you who have been baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ."

In our Protestant faith traditions, baptism is one of two sacraments we celebrate together as the gathered people of God. The other is Holy Communion. As a sacrament  - a visible enactment of God's love that communicates the living presence of Christ - baptism is celebrated in the midst of the worshipping community. Therefore, all scheduled baptisms take place during our Sunday morning worship service. As baptism represents not just the blessing of an individual, but a serious commitment of Christian nurture by both parents and congregation, we ask those not familiar with our church to attend our worship service for several months prior to baptism. All families and individuals requesting baptism meet with our pastor for preparation.

To inquire about baptism for you or your children, please contact our pastor at the church number at the bottom of this page.

FuneralsFleurdeLyse

"For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face."

For Christians, the occasion of losing a loved one is one of both pain and hope. Like Jesus, we weep over the death of our beloved friends and family. But we also hold out the resillient hope that there is light beyond every darkness and resurrection beyond our dying.

Our sanctuary and pastor are available to assist you in planning a memorial service (without a casket or urn present) or a funeral (with casket or urn). We will work with the funeral home/director of your choice, if desired. Our pastor will meet with you to support you in your loss and plan a service that honors your loved one while lifting up Christian hope and consolation. Please contact our pastor at the church phone number at the bottom of this page.

Our fellowship hall, the Vestry, is also available for funeral and memorial service "collations" (small gatherings) after the service. Families need to arrange their own catering if a meal is being served (catering services can be recommended if you are from out of town). We have generous volunteers that will set-up and serve beverages and baked goods, as well as your catered meal, if desired. For fees and other information please see our fee schedule
