Events in the Life of Our Church

Throughout the year, the United Parish of Upton hosts several events here at the church. Some are celebrations in the life of the parish such as the annual Homecoming Brunch and Jazz Sunday Worship Service. Some are fundraisers; the Upton Town-wide Yard Sale held in conjunction with Upton's own Heritage Day and the Turkey Supper, all of which benefit the programs and outreach of the United Parish. Some of our events benefit outreach projects which the United Parish supports; the Upton Clean Up Day to benefit our wider community and the Dessert Auction, which benefits the Deacons' Benevolence Fund.

Be sure to check our calendar and join us for any or all of these occasions.

Got Sneakers? Senior Youth Group Fundraiser

Do you have old sneakers/cleats you no longer wear or your kids have outgrown? The Youth Group is working on a sneaker recycling project that keeps old sneakers/cleats out of landfills by either recycling them or redistributing them to the more than 6 million people world-wide who don't own a single pair. If you have any sneakers or cleats (no metal spikes) that no longer suit you please tie them together by the laces. A collection box will be placed in the lower vestry soon. We will collect them throughout the year (2020 included) and send them to an organization that recycles or redistributes them to those in need based on their condition. The youth group will receive compensation for each pair and the funds will go toward the Youth Empowerment Fund.

Pie Fundraiser

Senior Youth Group members will be baking pies on December 23rd. They can be picked up at the church that day or delivered to your home. There are 5 choices: pecan, pumpkin, apple, chocolate cream or Boston Cream. SYG members will be available in the vestry each Sunday to accept orders. Please place your order by 12/15, so we can plan for supplies. Proceeds will go towards the Youth Empowerment Fund to raise money for the upcoming summer 2020 mission trip. Thank you for your support.

Community Supper

Hosted by the Faith in Action Committee, the Community Supper is held monthly, September through June, every third Thursday at 5:30pm in the lower vestry (use the ground floor side entrance).

The Community Supper is a place where our guests can enjoy the company of new and old friends and take a break from having to cook one evening a month. It's an opportunity for those outside of our congregation to come in and see what the United Parish is about, and of course it offers a nutritious meal for all, including a main dish, vegetarian option, salad, bread (generouly donated by Panera Bread), dessert and beverge.

We accept a free will offering to help provide the resources necessary to prepare the meal. Donations are not required. Come and bring a friend!

The next Community Supper will be held December 19, 2019 at 5:30pm.

Interfaith Discussion Group

The Interfaith Discussion Group will be starting again in January of 2020. The group is an adult education program of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Grafton and Upton under the leadership of Rev. Daniel Gregoire. Meetings will be hosted by the United Parish of Upton.  More information will be coming this fall.

Confirmation

Confirmation is offered every other year for all 15-18 year-olds who have not yet been confirmed. The next confirmation program will begin in the fall of 2020.

Church Announcements

We are making worship announcements more effective, integrated, and meaningful by incorporating them into our worship service. If you have information to share regarding the life of the church, please take a moment to plan your announcement ahead. Getting your announcement in the worship schedule is easy - you can reach out to the church office for assistance, or click here for an online form. See below for a brief description of the types of announcements in worship.

Your announcement is a testimony if its purpose is to inform - if it's about telling what you have seen and heard God doing in our ministry. These announcements can be made at any time. They are not time sensitive and do not request direct assistance.

Your announcement is a call to offering if its purpose is to invite, to share opportunities, or to call the congregation to serve with financial gifts, time, input, or spiritual support. These announcements may be time sensitive.

Whether your announcement is a testimony or a call to offering you may request two different times to make your announcement. This allows you to repeat information, further helping people internalize your message. Church staff will respond to your request and confirm with you the schedule of your announcements and ask for details where needed.

Do you have an announcement for a Sunday soon? We look forward to hearing from you!
