Upcoming Events in the Life of Our Church:

Throughout the year, the United Parish of Upton hosts several events here at the church. Some are celebrations in the life of the parish such as the annual Homecoming Brunch and Jazz Sunday Worship Service. Some are fundraisers; the Fall Yard Sale and the Turkey Supper, all of which benefit the programs and outreach of the United Parish. Some of our events benefit outreach projects which the United Parish supports; the Strawberry Festival and Auction to benefit the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greater Worcester and the Dessert Auction, which benefits the Deacons' Benevolence Fund.

Be sure to check our calendar and join us for any or all of these occasions.

New United Parish Pictorial Directory

Do you ever see people in church and wonder what their names are?

Have you ever heard an announcement regarding a member and wished you could put a face with a name?

Are you a new member and wish you had something to help you put names with faces?

Help is on the way! We are producing a new pictorial directory. On September 25, 26 and 27, Lifetouch Photography will be at the church from 2:00-9:00PM to take church family pictures which will be gathered in a new directory. During Coffee Hour on Sundays, you can sign up for a photography session. Or click on the icon below to sign-up on-line and follow the instructions.

Ongoing Events

Interfaith Book Group

The Interfaith Book Group will resume in September on the 18th, 7:00 in the church vestry. The group will meet on the third Monday evening of each month at the United Parish.  Join members of the United Parish community and members of other local faith communities to read and discuss the book Twelve Steps to a Compassionate Life by Karen Armstrong. The group plans to discuss one chapter of the book at each meeting. All are encouraged and welcome to attend.

The twelve steps Armstrong suggests begin with "Learn About Compassion" and close with "Love Your Enemies." In between, she takes up "compassion for yourself", mindfulness, suffering, sympathetic joy, the limits of knowledge of others, and "concern for everybody". She suggests concrete ways of enhancing our compassion and putting it into action in our everyday lives, and provides, as well, a reading list to encourage us to "hear one another's narratives." Throughout, Armstong makes clear that a compassionate life is not a matter of only heart or mind but a deliberate and often life-altering commingling of the two.

Paperback copies of the book can be purchased through Amazon. Click here for an event flyer.

Creating with God

Join Pastor Lourey for a time to express whatever form your creative spiritual practice takes. From journaling to coloring to knitting to meditation all spiritual practice is time well spent. All are welcome to meet at the church for a time of creativity and companionship. This fellowship time will resume in October.

Community Supper

Hosted by the Gifts and Services Committee, the Community Supper is held every third Thursday at 5:30 in the lower vestry (use the ground floor side entrance). The Community Supper is a place where our guests can enjoy the company of new and old friends and take a break from having to cook one evening a month. It's an opportunity for those outside of our congregation to come in and see what the United Parish is about, and of course it offers a nutritious meal for all, including a main dish, vegetarian option, salad, bread (generouly donated by Panera Bread), dessert and beverge. We accept a free will offering to help provide the resources necessary to prepare the meal. Donations are not required. Come and bring a friend. We hope to see you there!

The first Community Supper of the fall will be on September 21 at 5:30. Please call the church office to RSVP by Tuesday, September 19. All are welcome!
